Day One: Small Business Tax Topics

  • 8 CPE Credits
  • Course Level: Intermediate
  • Prerequisite:  Basic knowledge of partnerships, corporations, sole proprietorships, & LLCs.

This seminar covers small business topics under various entities. Topics covered will include: health insurance, unreimbursed business expenses, retirement plans, compensation, contributions and distributions, and liquidations. Each topic will show a comparison between a partnership, S corporation, C corporation, sole proprietorship, and LLC. If you have clients who own or run small businesses, then this workshop is for you.

Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Define the tax implications of each small business topic covered.
  • Compare tax topics covered between different entities.
  • Distinguish the factors that may apply to your client(s).
  • Determine the best entity choice for your client's needs.
  • Complete the necessary forms to report each of the small business topics listed above.


Day Two: Individual Tax Topics

  • 8 CPE Credits
  • Course Level: Intermediate
  • Prerequisite:  Basic knowledge on preparing a Form 1040 return.

This information-packed course will review Schedule D, the various capital gains rates, and incentive stock options (ISOs). It will explain how these items may lead to alternative minimum tax (AMT) and the minimum tax credit (MTC), including the refundable AMT credit. Lastly, it will examine the tax benefit rule and AMT.

Objectives

Upon completion of this seminar, you will be able to:

  • Apply the appropriate capital gains rate.
  • Explain the tax consequences of incentive stock options.
  • Identify tax issues that result in AMT.
  • Determine if the MTC is available and whether any of it is refundable.
  • Compute the taxable amount of a refund if the taxpayer was subject to AMT.


Day Three: Estates, Gifts, and Trusts

  • 8 CPE Credits
  • Course Level: Intermediate
  • Prerequisite:  Basic knowledge of fiduciary income taxation.

Here's your chance to update your knowledge on fiduciary income tax. This course will give you answers to representing Form 1041 late filers, irrevocable life insurance trusts, charitable remainder and charitable lead trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, and estate income taxation. Attend this session and grow your client base by offering your expert advice on these topics.

  • Gain an awareness of recent developments in fiduciary income taxation.
  • Determine the effect of missed deadlines on fiduciary income taxes.
  • Recognize the personal income, gift, and estate tax consequences of irrevocable life insurance trusts, qualified personal residence trusts, charitable remainder trusts, and charitable lead trusts.
  • Learn the income tax rules specific to decedents' estates.
